UNE RENTRÉE NUMÉRIQUE, AN ANNUAL TEACHING EVENT

CHRONIQUES’s educational offering is part of the yearly Artistic and Cultural Education programme organised together with the DAAC of the Académie Aix-Marseille, the local education authority’s service charged with promoting artistic education and cultural action.

Each year, this programme includes a training course in line with the Académie’s Training Plan (exclusively for secondary school teachers in the Bouches-du-Rhône department), guided tours, and practical workshops.

To best prepare for this event, teachers have access to an educational theme pack and an online platform with resources dedicated to the digital arts, Repères numériques. 

Each year, in addition to the training course, the tours, and the workshops, UNE RENTRÉE NUMÉRIQUE, or A NEW DIGITAL SCHOOL YEAR, provides teachers access to artistic and cultural educational projects in line with schemes on municipal, departmental (outreach in secondary schools, subsidies for school-led projects) and regional (support for in-school education projects) levels.

UNE RENTRÉE NUMÉRIQUE 2021, A HYBRID EDITION 

UNE RENTRÉE NUMÉRIQUE 2021 ran from 11 November 2021 to 6 March 2022, and on the programme featured a training programme in step with the Académie Aix-Marseille’s Training Plan (exclusively for secondary school teachers in the Bouches-du-Rhône department), guided tours, and practical workshops.

The programme revolved around three art projects that each facilitated the exploration of a different theme and digital artistic practice:

  • The installation of two pieces from artist  Guillaume Marmin in Arles and in Marseille. Guillaume Marmin, in close touch with kinetic art, uses light to pose questions about our relationship with space, particularly regarding conservation and heritage. Classes took the theme further through a video mapping workshop.
    • Hara at the Eglise des Frères Prêcheurs from 6 to 24 October 2021
    • Silent Music 2 at the Departmental Museum of Ancient Arles from 1 to 31 October 2021
  • The shows “The Ordinary Circus Girl,” by the company Fheel Concepts and “Fugue VR” by Yoann Bourgeois put on as part of the International Biennale of Circus Arts (BIAC) in Aix-en-Provence on 3, 4, and 5 February 2022. These spectacles linked virtual reality and circus performance.

  • A monographic exhibition dedicated to animation filmmaker Boris Labbé in Aix-en-Provence at the departmental cultural space 21, bis Mirabeau, from 10 November 2021 to 20 February 2022, and at the Musée des Tapisseries, from 3 December 2021 to 6 March 2022. Boris Labbé takes his inspiration from art history, particularly from the Flemish Masters, to investigate our relationship with the world and to break down the borders between the arts. Classes learnt the techniques used in animation filmmaking in a practical workshop.

Some ongoing projects:

  • The Digital Factory / Middle School / 8hr course / Immersion in ZINC’s Fablab at La Friche la Belle de Mai and introduction to numerical control machines 
  • My First Animated Film / Secondary school / 8hr course / Introduction to the animation process, with support from artist and speaker Loïse Bulot, in line with Boris Labbé’s exhibition, “The Turbulent Infinite”.

AUNE RENTRÉE NUMÉRIQUE 2020, AN EDITION TAILORED TO THE HEALTH SITUATION

The healthcare crisis profoundly changed the outline of the 2020 edition of UNE RENTRÉE NUMÉRIQUE. The CHRONIQUES outreach team made sure to maintain ties with teachers in spite of the closure of cultural centres and organised:

  • The digital art workshop “Holographic Phantom” in schools from 5 to 21 January 2021. Inspired by the exhibition “Ghost in the Machine” staged at 21, bis Mirabeau – a departmental cultural space – the workshop was beneficial to more than 600 pupils in a dozen primary schools in Marseille.
  • modules centred around two pieces on show at the exhibition “Eternity Part 2: What do we want to grow on our ruins?” at La Friche la Belle de Mai: Paul Gong’s “The Appendix human” and Stéfane Perraud’s “Sylvia”. Each module was split into two parts: a presentation of the piece and a simple digital creative exercise.

  • In spite of the healthcare crisis, CHRONIQUES, in collaboration with Théâtre Massalia, ran the educational project “Pro Vivance Lab 2097” alongside La Métacarpe. Two classes from Year 4 and Year 5 from the École Eydoux in Marseille reaped the benefits of a rich set of workshops. Find out more about the project!
